The World of Undiscovered Poets: Sheila Newton
Poetry is in the hearts of people around the world. Whether it is the lyrics to a favorite song or a beautiful metaphor describing life, poetry has been able to inspire many to seize the day, and live life to its fullest. While poetry plays such an important role in the everyday lives of people, there is a whole world of poetry online that has yet to be discovered. There are literally thousands of talented poets who go unnoticed, and some of these individuals have written the most inspiring work of the 21rst century. It is a crime that this work should go unnoticed and in the name of justice, I would like to share the words of some of these undiscovered poets.
Sheila Newton
During my journey through the internet world of poetry, I journeyed to a site known as Triond.com. Triond introduced me to a vast array of poets, and one poet in particular proved to me very memorable to me. Sheila Newton, a woman I would never have met had I not explored Triond, came into my world.
Sheila, a poet located in a small town in the North East of England, started writing poetry during “those teenage angst years” that many young people first discover poetry. Later on she joined a local writers’ workshop where she started expanding her repertoire of poetic forms.
Sheila’s favorite styles of poetry are the syllabic styles such as Haiku, Senryu, Triangular, and Fibonacci poems. Her poetic heroes are William Shakespeare for his beautiful sonnets, Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath because they are fellow female poets and Raymond Carver for his creative inspiration.
Sheila has written many poems, but she is most proud of Cavalcade a Triangular poem she wrote for Bookstove. This particular poem was well received amongst Sheila’s loyal following of readers. Her future plans for poetry include creating an anthology of all her poetic works, which will be quite a contribution to the poetic world once it’s completed, as Sheila has a vast collection of poetry for the world to enjoy.
